SEARCH GUIDE
Scoulytics is a unique tool designed to help professionals identify player profiles that match their requirements, allowing them to save many hours of work by avoiding the need to review dozens of leagues and hundreds of players.

To achieve this, we have developed a set of filters of different types, divided into three main categories: Biodata, Stats Research, and Special Skills.

1) BIODATA
Users can narrow down the pool of players by filtering through:

  • First or last name
  • Age range
  • Position
  • Continent or “Status” (e.g.: Cotonou, Bosman A, Bosman B). By selecting a given option, all the individual countries included in it will be automatically selected. It is also possible to add or remove specific countries from this list.
  • Specific nationalities. Regarding this filter and the previous one, we would like to clarify that nationality is to be understood in a broader sense: it takes into account not only the passport(s) held by a player, but also their “homegrown” status (e.g.: Shengelia will appear in the results if “Georgia” is selected, but also if “Spain” is selected, as he completed his development in Spain and holds a JFL license).
  • Minimum height (selectable in centimeters or in feet and inches)
  • Specific league
  • League Tiers. Groups of Specific Leagues that we have clustered based on their level or geographical area. Below is the detailed list of leagues included in each tier.
Europe tier 1: includes ABA League, LNB Élite (France), BBL (Germany), GBL (Greece), Winner League (Israel), LBA (Italy), Liga ACB (Spain), BSL (Turkey), VTB United League
Europe tier 2: includes BNXT League (Belgium/Netherlands), LNB Élite 2 (France), Pro A (Germany), Serie A2 (Italy), Serie B (Italy), Latvian Estonian Basketball League, LKL (Lithuania), PLK (Poland), KLS (Serbia), Primera FEB (Spain)
European Cups: includes Euroleague, Eurocup, Basketball Champions League, FIBA Europe Cup
    Non-European Leagues:
includes NBL (Australia/New Zealand), BCL Americas, CEBL (Canada), CBA (China), B1 League (Japan), NBA G-League

For each of the filters described above, except for height (for obvious reasons), it is possible to select multiple options at the same time.

  • Euro pro-experience. Allows users to restrict the search to players who have already gained experience in European basketball, thus excluding so-called “rookies”.

2) STATS RESEARCH

Players can be filtered based on their average statistics. It is possible to set minimum desired values for: points, total/offensive/defensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, FG%, 3P%, 3PT attempts, 2P%, 2PT attempts, FT%, efficiency, minutes, games played; and maximum values for turnovers and fouls committed. At their discretion, users can apply one, multiple, or all filters simultaneously.
Through the “Stats Search Period” filter, users can choose whether to apply the selected criteria to:

  • the current season
  • the last 3 seasons (players who met the required values in at least one of them will be included in the results)
  • the player’s entire career (players who met the required values in at least one season of their career will be included in the results).

3) SPECIAL SKILLS

Alongside the two previously described categories, which are based on numbers and objective, there is a third equally valuable one: Special Skills. These represent one of the most significant outcomes of the work we have conducted in recent months and consist of badges assigned to certain players to certify the level of specific qualities (Skills) they possess. By watching hundreds of games – both on TV and live in arenas – we have studied the playing style of thousands of players, analyzing their characteristics and distinctive traits, going beyond what simple statistics can (partially) convey.

The 15 badges we have created indicate the presence of a specific ability related to a particular aspect of the game (and beyond). Below is a brief explanation of the less intuitive ones:

  • All-around: certifies a player’s versatility and ability to positively impact the game in multiple ways, contributing across various aspects on one end of the court, the other, or both.
  • Driver: certifies a player’s tendency and ability to attack the basket
  • Energy: certifies a player’s ability to bring energy, intensity, and electricity onto the court
  • Master: certifies a player’s elevated level of fundamentals and technical skills
  • Shooter: certifies a player’s shooting ability, considering multiple factors such as tendencies, percentages, volume, and shot selection
  • Athleticism, Ball handler, Clutch, Defender, High IQ, Leader, Passer, Scorer, Speed, Verticality: we believe no further explanation is needed!

IMPORTANT: the presence of badges indicates a player’s specialization or strengths – according to our evaluation – with respect to specific aspects of the game, but it does not provide a measure of their overall level, nor is it intended as a ranking or comparison tool. Therefore, a player who owns more badges than another does not necessarily mean he is a better player than him!
Furthermore, badges are relative in nature: different standards have been defined for players with different positions when assigning the badges (e.g.: a big man, in order to receive the “Ball handler” or “Speed” badge, will need to meet lower thresholds than a perimeter player).

*DISCLAIMER*: we are doing our best to analyze as many players as possible and assign the appropriate badges, but we have not yet reviewed every profile in our database. For this reason, combining the filters from the first two categories (Biodata and Stats) with Special Skills filters may result in excluding players we have not yet evaluated. Therefore, we recommend initially using only the first two categories and then, if a more refined search is wanted, adding Special Skills filters!
